In this course, students will use experimentation and inquiry to explore the basic concepts of biological science. All aspects of life will be investigated, including cellular structure, structure and function of plants and animals, genetics, concepts of evolution, the diversity and adaptations of living organisms, principles of classification, and ecological relationships. This course is recommended for students who wish to attend a UC school or major in science. This course meets the life science graduation requirement. **Students taking this course for UC credit must follow the guidelines listed on the Course Description Form.In this course, students will use experimentation and inquiry to explore the basic concepts of biological science. Properties of Water: Lab and activities
Click here to see a copy of the lab we used to study the incredible properties of water.
To view three insightful articles about the horrific impact of plastic on our oceans click here and here and here!
THE SCIENTIFIC METHOD!
we watched a video on BRAIN POP!
Inside the secretive SEED VAULT in SVALBARD.
SALSA SEED LAB
The scientific method defined and utilized. We design and delineate the parameter of our very own experiment to test our hypothesis: will seeds from organic produce germinate at a higher percentage that seeds taken from non-organic produce. Oh, and we made an epic salsa as a byproduct of collecting seeds!

Cell structure and Organelles
cell membrane bubble lab:
we investigated 6 cell concepts with this awesome cell bubble lab! click here to see the full lab description and worksheets.
diffusion, osmosis, hypertonic, isotonic, hypotonic, fluid-mosaic membrane, hydrophobic, hydrophylic, etc!
MITOSIS!
We spent the day investigating the amazing stages of the amazing process of cell division that is know the world over as mitosis. It was great!
A GREAT mitosis video:
More CRASH COURSE please!
Mitosis in REAL TIME!
Mas Mitosis!
We created mitosis artwork and began production on stop motion animation using the wonderful HUE animation studio and camera.
MEIOSIS!
sex cells, gametes, haploid, tetrads, homologous chromosomes, crossing over, independent assortment, etc.
BUT FIRST...... a quick review on cell structure and function! Enjoy!
OK, now back to meiosis:
Photos below documenting the process of creating stop motion MEIOSIS animation.
