This course will focus on instructing the student on how to read and design plans, use a wide variety of hand and power tools, and use a wide variety of materials to engineer and build projects. The curriculum will focus on technical drawing, woodworking, plumbing and electricity basics, small engines, and perhaps welding! There will always be a constant and continuous focus on safety throughout this course. Students will be supervised at all times while working with any potentially hazardous power tools. Students will also undergo extensive safety training on all tools, machines, and procedures. This course will be a mixture of lab activities, interactive demonstrations, project based learning, and lectures that support the hands on learning. Students will predominantly work in small groups on projects that focus on real world applications and, whenever possible, sustainability.
